Harley cuts out at high rpm

It's a pretty violent/instantaneous thing. It's like someone is randomly flipping the kill switch off and then on. If you don't let off the throttle, it'll bog down and die. Also check the height on the main jet needle in the slide and see if it is shimmed up high in the holder which would also cause a very rich area at about that RPM. All electrical circuits appeared to be okay to include the radio. I pulled off the freeway and ultimately realized the battery in my FOB was dead. On the freeway, I replaced the FOB battery with my neighbors car FOB battery and the motorcycle engine started with no problem......After riding 15-20 miles around 75-85mph ,when I go to throttle down and pass 3 or 4 cars the bike pulls like god till I get around the cars and when I go to throttle down and it starts popping out of the exhaust. Once the throttle is released the engine will re fire after several seconds and run properly until you crack the throttle open all the way again and hold it open. It seems like the bike is over fueling itself because it will backfire on decel and when you mid throttle the bike to get it out of that rpm range like a normal acceleration. But when you full throttle it sputters till it gets out of that rpm range once about 3000rpm give or take a few 100 bike picked up all cylinders and ran fine.Joined May 24, 2005. 2,837 Posts. When the security system is disarmed and the bike is running you can drive off without the FOB. But if you turn the bike off anyplace you'll be stranded !
